empowering women and girls in sport with an event identity that emphasizes conversation and belonging.
Brief
Develop the look + feel for Jays Care Foundation's EmpowHER event, a women-led discussion focused on making sport inclusive and accessible for all girls across Canada. The objective for the look of the event was to highlight the unique nature of the event as a women-focused speaker series, where the aim was to get attendees engaged and interacting in conversation. Although the event was hosted by a major league baseball team, Jays Care wanted to create an event identity that did not emphasize baseball, but rather the importance of engaging girls in any form of sport or physical activity.
Solution
The aim was to create an event identity that was distinctive from Jays Care's other events and uniquely focused on women- led conversation and girls empowerment. The event logo aimed to convey the central role of conversation in the event, with its speech bubble shape - a graphic element that was used throughout the event identity. A new colour, purple, was added to the
Toronto Blue Jays colour palette, again creating a distinctive look for this women-oriented event. Photography was baseball-adjacent, but did not specifically show girls playing baseball. The focus was more on close-up shots of girls having fun while being active and the sense of belonging that comes from being in a group.
